Tribal Tulum Hotel ★★★★

The room was well organized and clean. The bed was comfortable and the view outside the room was very beautiful. Just few steps from the beach. The bathroom was well designed and clean.

The location is a little bit far Great value for money!

The room was big and clean.

There is no safe in the room and it is important in Mexico. There is no mini fridge also in the room. The hotel has not a restaurant and beach chairs or umbrellas at the beach.

It is very clean and the location was towards the end of the the main road ,the away from the crowds and noise. Great place to stay if you want to get away from it all

More light I public spaces

The location of the hotel is very nice. It is at the end of the street full of hotels meaning that the beach and location is very calm and quiet. The rooms however were a dissapointment and did not look anything at all like the online pictures. Also the lack of facilities like a bar or a restaurant is a disadvantage.

The rooms do not look anything like the photos online. Where the picture portray a nice atmospheric room, the rooms really are basic and plain and lack atmosphere. Also the cleanliness was poor and there was no warm water during our stay. We also really missed having a bar or restaurant in the hotel. Luckily you can go to one of the beach clubs next door.

Nice and clean room, close to the beach, secure

Lack of amenities near by, had to walk at least 20min to find the nearest grocery store and hotel did not have any restaurant services (as these were under construction according to staff). No hot water, no potable water, we had to use small bottles of water to even brush our teeth, bearing in mind that when we requested a couple more bottles for this purpose we were denied and told by a frankly rude staff member that these were only complimentary on check in, which seems rather unreasonable when there is no clean water to begin with. In the end we had to buy our own water to use for brushing teeth etc.

The property was just fine. Having stayed at a number of other hotels in Tulum, I had some preconceived notions of what to expect, so perhaps I had my expectations set too high. To be clear, Tribal is just fine. The room was clean, the property is nice and it's on a beach in Tulum, so you can't really beat that. That said, the hotel overall is VERY bare bones -- there's no restaurant, no bar, nothing in the room minus a bed and maybe a couple bottles of water (IF your housekeeper comes that day). Which -- for many -- is all they're looking for in Tulum, so: great. BUT, having enjoyed the amazing service + dining at hotels such as Be Tulum on prior visits, I was a little disappointed in Tribal's lack thereof. No one thing was "terrible", I think it was just a combination of all of the lackluster that led me to walk away thinking it was just "okay".

In addition to the disappointment at the lack of any amenities, the service was a bit strange. It seemed like maybe they were under a transition of sorts with the hotel staff and/or there wasn't a clear line of communication between all staff (which, again, is very different from other places I've stayed in Tulum, where the staff seem to have clear processes in place to deliver excellence). For instance, upon arriving, the woman who checked me in seemed super dazed. I asked her where the yoga was located (which, was 100% my fault -- I had read about 'Tribal Tulum Yoga' and had falsely assumed it was located at the hotel -- it's not), she just stared at me like I was crazy. When I told her about the _other_ Tribal, she giggled and said, "there's another Tribal?!"... I also asked her where I could rent a bike (given Tribal, sadly, does not provide them, as others do), she didn't know, but guessed at some random places (note: I later discovered on my own that the resort right next door rents them for ~$5/day). She also told me that I would have to pay $20/day on food and beverages at the neighboring beach club if I wanted to use their beach chairs (which spill over onto "Tribal's" beach. Tribal itself doesn't have beach chairs. She also forgot to charge me for my stay / didn't even think to check if I had already paid. I wasn't trying to be shady about it on purpose, I myself had forgotten if I paid in-full in advance, however, another staff member came knocking on my door -- 2 days into my trip -- to let me know that I still needed to pay. Lastly, the water went out at the entire hotel for a couple hours on my last day, which was annoying. Fine: I can shower in the ocean, but washing my hands / flushing a toilet would've been nice (it wasn't a city-wide issue, as I saw the outdoor showers at the neighboring beach club working).

Super lovely, simple hotel. 11 rooms only. Quiet and clean. Very nicely designed. Spacious bathroom.

Not much. They don’t have a restaurant yet but are looking to open one soon. In the mean time you can have a nice simple breakfast 2 min walk next door. They also do the beach club service there.

Beautifully situated at the beach. Very big rooms with large comfortable beds.

Even though the hotel is at the beach they do not have sunbeds

The A.C did not work. After raising the issue with a staff member, we were offered to move 4 people to one double bed to share for the night or 4 500ml bottles of water. When we declined, we were given two double rooms where the A.C also didn't work. Finally, after walking to reception in the dark, we asked the receptionist about the A.C and he told us that there was an electrical issue. It was unnecessary for us to move rooms three times as the same problem existed all over the property. We should have been informed of the problem from the outset. The staff never apologized for any inconvenience and the general manager was never available to speak to me, even though he visited the property when we were there. There is also a charge for the beds on the beach in front of the property. However, staff didn't inform us of this. Very disappointed with our stay.
